Race Rules
This is an Extreme Triathlon through remote locations and difficult terrain and has some different rules to a regular triathlon. Before entering please make sure you have read this page and understand the requirements!
If you are found to be breaking any of the below rules you will be disqualified.
The race directors reserve the right to change the rules until the start of the race (as needed) to provide a safe and enjoyable race.
Supporter
Every athlete or team is required to have a dedicated supporter and support vehicle (for relay your supporter can be a team member). This person is required to be present at registration. The supporter is not required to run any portion of the run course with you but can if you/they want.
Support Car
This is a self supported race. Your supporter is your portable aid station. The support vehicle must show the athlete/team stickers during the race. If pulling over to assist your athlete, all 4 wheels must be off the road. You may only receive help from your dedicated support vehicle (or another athletes dedicated support vehicle). Outside assistance is not allowed.
Cut offs
For the Extreme Race & Relay: swim cut off is 2 hours. The run start cut off time is 12 hours from the race start (5pm). The finish line cutoff is 19hrs - midnight.
For the 3500 Race: swim cut off is 1hr 30 minutes. The run start cut off is 11 hours 30 minutes from the race start (5pm). The finish line cutoff is 18:30 - midnight.
GPS Tracker
Athletes must carry their GPS tracker at all times. It must be in your swim buoy and then carried during both the bike and run leg. Relay teams must pass the tracker between athletes. The tracking will be live so supporters can follow your location.
Swim Buoy and Light
All athletes are required to swim with a swim buoy with a light inside. The race starts in the dark and it is essential we are able to see everyone. These will not be provided and you will not be allowed in the water without a swim buoy that is lit.
Rules of the Road
This is an open road race. Therefore, the rules of the road must be obeyed at all times. You are responsible for your own safety and knowing the route. Where possible there will be directional signs and volunteers to help direct you at busy junctions. However, you must not rely on this and need to know where you are going in order to proceed safely.
Bike Equipment
Bikes must have a solid white light on the front and a rear red flashing light on the back. Athletes must wear a helmet and have their bib showing at all times while on the bike.
Bikes and Drafting
This is a draft free race. You are not allowed to draft athletes or your support vehicle. Additionally, you are not allowed to change bikes or wheels during the race except due to a mechanical failure. In this case you must inform the race director.
Run safety equipment
Each athlete and any support runner must have water bottles or bladders, a headlamp, a fully charged cell phone, emergency blanket, soft shell jacket and nutrition to get to 20km (where a supporter can meet you) or for the whole race. Trail shoes are recommended as nearly the entire run is on trail. Hiking poles may be used, but are not required.
This equipment will be checked before you leave T2. (Your supporter can have it checked before you arrive).
Severe Weather on course
While it is rare, it is not impossible there will be snow on the course or extreme weather in the mountains. Things can change quickly and we reserve the right to change the course before or even during the race.
Age Limit
All athletes (team members) must be 18 years or older on the day of the race, 5th September 2027.
Littering
We are racing though pristine countryside and so all trash needs to be carried out.
Age Groups
There will be no age groups for this event. The podium will be 1st-3rd overall by gender for each event. Relay awards will depend on number of entrants and the composition of teams.
Further rules will be published in the race manual but the above rules are those that are specific to this race and maybe different from most triathlons.
